Gettin Greasy in Greece!

My roommate and I chartered a pirate ship in the Mediterranean. After she cruised back to California, I met up with my friend from the Caribbean and we sailed all around Greece… What an adventure!

Heavy Pirating in St. Barths!

Standard

PirateLifeAirplaneShoeWhat a week of pirating!!! It all started on Beef Island, where I jumped on a plane to St. Marten! Jenna picked me up on her scooter when I reached the island. We cruised around, drinking rum and laughing the night away. In the morning, I flew over to St. Barths… one of the coolest landings in the world. The plane soars between 2 mountains, and lands on the tiniest strip.

I had the most lavish lunch at La Plage with the Spooky Crew! After lunch, we danced down to Nikki Beach for PARTY! We swam out to the Gem for cocktail hour.

The way back to Tortola was so amazing. Arrive by plane, leave by boat!! Ripped from St. Barths to Tortola on the power boat…. Crossing from the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean Sea, one snack pack, a cooler of cold beer, fishing poles, and a surfboard…. doesn’t get much better!

The BATHS!

Standard

BathsVGThe Baths on Virgin Gorda (Fat Virgin in Spanish) was our next destination.

The Caribbean clouds were puffy and the Seas were calm as we sailed over to the magical little corner of the British Virgin Islands.

Volcanic eruptions deposited granite that eroded into piles of huge boulders on the beach. The 40 foot boulders form natural tunnels, arches, and tidal pools.

Katelyn and I swam under the magnificent formations, enjoying every moment! Baths!

Poppin Bubbles at the Bubbles on my Birthday!

Standard

BubblesMy BIG Birthday week celebration was amazing! The festivities continued to numerous islands, including Jost Van Dyke, Normand Island, Ginger Island, and Virgin Gorda.

Katelyn and I sailed over to Jost Van Dyke and dropped anchor at the east end. We walked the tropical path, into the Bubbles, only to discover our personal pool awaiting.

Waves from the North side of the Caribbean Sea splash over the rocks into a natural little pool.

Katelyn popped the bottle and we soaked in the aqua blue bubbles.Bubbles2ChampagneBubblesPath

LET THE PIRATING BEGIN!!

Standard

I landed on the island of St. Thomas in the heaviest rain I  had ever seen in my life!
I couldn’t wait for the adventures ahead of me. I took a ferry from the US Virgin Islands over to the British Virgin Islands. A taxi was waiting for me to drive me to the West End of Tortola. There was one part of my trip I hadn’t figured out yet; how I was going to get on board yacht Xanadu, which was patiently waiting in the Sea, tied up to the mooring.
There were 3 options;
1. Swim to the sailboat, put the dinghy in the water, and come back to land for my luggage.
2. Hitchhike a boat ride out to the sailboat
3. Pirate a dinghy.

I headed to the bar to see what I could summon up. It was pretty quiet, as I drank my first Caribbean beer of the season.

CaribbeanCarriePostcard
I decided on plan 3….. PIRATE A DINGHY! I cruised over to my friends yacht, which was parked on the dock. The boat’s dinghy was hoisted up out of the water. I quietly lowered it into the water, started the engine and was off.
When I arrived on yacht Xanadu, I unloaded my bags off the pirated dinghy. I dropped my dinghy in the water, and towed the pirated dinghy back to its home. In the middle of the night, not a soul knew.
I laid down in my bed, with a smile of my face. I made it back to my favorite spot in the world and I couldn’t even imagine what tomorrow would bring!

Island hopping in the Mediterranean

Standard
Yacht Week was wild, to say the least! Move over Spring Break! Yacht Week is so much classier and fun to the max!
I flew over to Europe for the month of August to sail the Mediterranean. My first stop was visiting friends on the Balearics Islands of Spain. Mallorca is one of the most beautiful islands I have been to in Europe. I enjoyed a relaxing environment…fresh strawberry mojitos on the beach, late evening dinners, and plenty of tapas !
I have always dreamed of going to Ibiza! I flew one island over from Palma Mallorca to check out the world famed summer destination for 24 hours!
Next stop? Croatia ! My friends and I charted a sail boat! Every day we sailed to a new island, with a heavy party agenda! We had the coolest raft up party on afternoon with all the other yachts. IT WAS WILD! After sunset, we untied one end of the raft up so we where a long chain. All night we cruised on all the other yachts for an all night party. One of my favorite nights was when we went to an outdoor club in an old war fort. The vip table was so rad!  Located on the island of Vis, Fort George is like no other club I have ever been to.

After we go off the boat, the whole crew and I headed to Dubrovnik, the OLDEST WALLED CITY IN THE WORLD! We are talking the year 1205 here! We rented the COOLEST apartment in the center of the walled city. There are no cars inside the walls, just walking around. We enjoyed shopping in the afternoons, quaint coffee shops,  dinners under the stars, and of coarse clubbing until the sun rose!

We will for sure be back next summer for Yacht Week in GREECE!!

I think every Birthday gets better and better!! After sailing across from Sandy Cay, we arrived at Cane Garden Bay. I met up with my friend Pedro on the beach for the best drink ever. He climbed the coconut tree, coconut and rum and sliced a few down with his machete. Padro hacked the top off, drank down a little of the coconut water, than filled it to the top with guava rum. So good!

I couldn’t think of a better way to reunite. My two best friends from high school came down to the Caribbean for our own High School Reunion. We attended one of the coolest schools in the world, Killington Mountain School in Killington,Vermont. Molly and Katelyn raced on the ski team, while I was on the snowboard team… but that didn’t keep us apart! What is up with the skiier/snowboarder rivalry? None of that here!

We provisioned Yacht Xanadu and set sail straight for Jost Van Dyke. Soggy Dollar Beach Bar was the New Year’s Eve DAY spot! We met up with my friend from Cane Garden Bay, Brady for some Pain Killers and partying. Around 5 o’clock we sailed over to Great Harbor and anchored in front of legendary Foxy’s to enjoy dinner and a some wild New Year’s Eve Celebrations.

New Years Day morning we took off to Little Jost Van Dyke to one of my favorite places…. the BUBBLES! After anchoring the boat, we dingy into the island. My mother and father first came here over 10 years ago, where the little local dog, Bubbles, lead the secret way to the coolest natural bubbly pool. Huge waves break over this unique pile of rocks, exploding into a private, natural pool, which creates a whirlpool. Of coarse we brought a bottle of bubbles to pop at the BUBBLES!
The day concluded with a refreshing Bushwacker and Painkiller at Foxy’s Taboo.Degi Hari

Aside
Private Planes and Submarie Chasing!

For one of the first times in my life, being late really paid off!!

It all started off with leaving the Hampton’s Saturday morning.

After an amazing visit with my Whistler friend, Chef Olivier, I was on my way to Montauk to catch the ferry to Block Island. After stopping over on Block Island for lunch, the plan was to hop on a ferry to Newport, just in time for the Folk Festival. Well, there was way too much traffic going on Long Island (New York, duh). I missed the ferry by about 15 minutes….the only ferry of the day! Instead of crying, like most girls would do, I decided I better figure out another way across the ocean if I was going to see all my friends at the annual Folk Festival.

Montauk Lighthouse

Olivier was on his way to New York City and offered to bring me there, and than take a bus to Rhode Island. That would take about 7 hours, and I  would for sure miss everything, Soooo…. I asked the nice lady at Viking Fleet Ferry if there were any other options off the tip on Long Island. She told me my two options were boat or plane. She informed me that most of the boats were out on a fishing tournment, and gave me the number of the private airport in Montauk. So I took matters into my own hands and walked around the docks to see if I could find a boat ride out of Montauk. One captain said he would take me for $400 across Block Island Sound. Too expansive. I called the tiny airport and they said they didn’t really have any planes leaving, but I should try giving one of their friends a call, Steve.

All I can say is Steve came to the rescue and saved the day. Without even meeting me, he told me he would pick me up in 20 minutes. Talk about being in the right place at the right time!

I think this was the adventur

e of my life time… so far

Nuclear Submarine

Before I knew it, we were taking off in the tiniest plane I have ever been in! Over his radio we heard big talks about a Nuclear Submarine about 20 miles south east of Block Island. Steve flew us over it to check it out!

Instead of bringing me to Block Island, he offered, mid air, to deliver me directly to Newport! I felt like the luckiest person in the world!! On the way over, we chased a nuclear submarine! RAD!

Thank you Steve!

Best Festival ever…. on the island! So green, so soft

I was so excited to climb up the rickety, rusted ladder, to the top of the light. From there, the view of the wind wrinkled ocean was magical. The Newport Bridge was glowing.

The dark history consumed me as I was standing on the same island that so many suffered on.  Besides being used during World Wars I and II as part of the Navy Torpedo Station where explosives were stored, Rose Island had another purpose:

QUARANTINE THE DYING!

The barracks were used as a quarantine station during a 1823 outbreak of cholera on Newport. Victims of these epidemics along with military men who died in Newport are believed to inhabit a number of unmarked mass graves. In the late 1800s, witnesses reported “ghouls” stealing bodies from the island in the name of medical research. However, today, no one knows where these bodies are located…

“Rose Island” because at low tide the island appears to be shaped like a rose.

SUGARBOWL BANZAI FINALS!

WOW! Is all I have to say…

Kiana, Macy, Anna, and Carrie on the Podium

That was the raddest Bonzai that I have ever raced in! The course was wild, the chicks were chill, and I straight lined the mogul field at the bottom of the race! I was in 1st place, and I figured, “now or never.” I was ripping so fast, I hit a mogul, caught an edge and I exploded really close to the finish line! I’m super sore today, but it was worth it haha… The skiers always bomb the mogul field, and I have always wanted to do it!
Macy and Kiana were right behind me, props for not running me over! thanks! That was a super fun, close race! That was the coolest group of girls that I have ever raced with in my life….. Congratulations to everyone.

Chilly and Devin picked me up early and we cruised to the mountain. I love van time with our 3 man party team… listening to Mr. Marley… talking about our strategies for the day.  The sun was shinning, all my roommates came out to watch, and the Sierra Nevada was flowing! Thank you Daron Rahlves for putting on such a fun event! I even brought Daron a Banzai truffle to the top of the race course from the candy store in Tahoe City.

1/2 ounce vodka (any brand)
1/2 ounce Baileys Irish Cream (or a similar off-brand name)
1/2 ounce Kahlua (or a coffee flavored off-brand name)
1/2 ounce amaretto liqueur (any brand)

1/2 ounce Frangelico
1/2 ounce creme de coconut (a MUST – “Coco Lopez” is best)

Well Well…. it’s been a while. I have been deep in the Caribbean with the pirates… MOM & DAD! Everyday we sail to a new island…. having the time of my life! Boxing day was the first celebration! My dad took me to the Horse Race Tracks on Tortola!! It was so interesting… kinda like a local festival! My first polo match in Hawaii and now my first Horse Race in Tortola…. what a year of interesting sports 2012 was.

The last Friday night of 2012, I celebrated with my boys at the full moon party at Bomba Shack. I still have my original mug from years ago… the tea tender was so stoked and served me free refills all night. Pedro blew me the cutest glass, blue star fish. He gave it to me under the full moon!

New Years Eve Day was rad!! I hung out with my local friends at Soggy Dollar…. one of my favorite bars! We anchor the sail boat in front of the beach, than swim into the beach bar. There is a mini clothes line behind the bar, where the bartender hangs all the we dollar bills up to dry…. Wet money is totally cool here!

I met up with my favorite Puerto Rican crew on Jost Van Dyke for some cocktails and swimming until the sun rose!  Sebastian and I had the raddest dingy ride across Great Bay… laughing the whole way. haha lets just say it took us a while!

On New Years Day, my parents sailed me to their friend’s secret beach spot. We hit up the bubbles from some swimming and bottle poppin’… than I ran into my friend Damien at Little Jost Van Dyke. It’s so cool to not have a phone and just run into your friends from other countries. There is no better feeling!  Damien moved to the Caribbean when he was 12 from Belgium. He grew up here… sailing, fishing, and windsurfing. He knows all the sweet surf spots…. we’re headed to cooper island later this week!!

For now…. Anegada here I come
